IPL is getting players also pumped up!!!
What was thought the highlight was the little shimmy shown by T Dilshan , a sri lankan player playing for DD), as there was a little sporting rivalry between pace bowler Fidel Edwards and him. Its great to see the overseas players really bringing in so much of passion and conviction to the club game. This is certainly good for the sport and for the IPL in particular. This will definitely add to the passion for the game.
When the IPL was to start I was really not sure why would the players be really motivated to play as a team and I suspected the quality of games that we will get might not be that good, I mean how do you really get players all charged up. As a captain and manager of the team it sure is very difficult for anybody. But what has happened is that a couple of good performances from some players, and suddenly everybody wishes to perform at their very best.
On the management’s part I guess it is good enough if you just provide a good enough platform for your players. There should be no dressing room dramas. Have clear cut policies and frameworks and let all your players know of the same. This will keep them focused and the idea of good performance translating into better compensation and better prices next year shall definitely keep them interested.
Also all the above holds so true in more conventional companies and managerial settings

The pyramid of desires
First, have enough monetary income to support self and family.
Second, have income enough for luxury like big house, luxury car etc
Third, gain financial independence
Fourth, have responsible work and job
Fifth, have name and respect in society
Sixth, be a mentor
Seventh, gain immortality
All the seven above are in increasing importance as we move up the base from first level.
This pyramid quite often and very obviously defines the way that we behave and deal in our day to day life.
There are many a people who know and think about these. These are mostly the college graduates or learned people who have had the time and the privilege to think about their life and their aims in general. Such people are usually in the early part of their job career or late part of their business career when they realize about the above given pyramid.
An understanding of such needs on the part of your employee is among the first and the foremost requirement on the part of a company’s HR department. It becomes very easy to motivate people and keep them at efficient performing levels if you know what they would really desire for at the certain grid in their jobs. Just satisfy their needs and make sure you have good employees stay put with you for longest possible time.
At the same time tough there are many a people who would never really know what they want from life. Such people only know to cry. Just like an infant these people will only always cry and it is for you, the parent, to decide whether they are hungry or there nappy needs to changed or if they are ill. But even in such cases I have seen and realized that the above pyramid does work and if you happen to give a higher grid object to a person who is still at the lower level, he will feel happy and satisfied with it. For example: In the construction business that my brother has, there are supervisors. These people are responsible to take work from the labor put up in the sites and make sure they perform tasks within given time and at satisfactory quality levels. These supervisors are usually paid just about 6-8k rupees, a figure way less compared to , 15-25k, what a fresher software engineer straight out of college gets in India. Still the supervisor will have a whole lot more self-esteem and sense of purpose, because of the responsibility he has at hand and because he gets to play mentor to all the laborers at the site.
Above is a very commonly seen and yet highly ignored scene at our work places. I have myself worked in job for good two years and never seen the HR at my organization or any other organization in the vicinity (there were more than 500 medium and big sized organizations in that IT park) to actually think and act this way with their employees.

Got into IIFT
With the admission comes newer dreams and aspirations for a new future and a sense of power which could allow me to shape my career the way I want it to. Well atleast I hope like that and just wish that IIFT is all that what people dream of about a well reputed and great B-School.
MBA to me is more than just a way to secure a high paying job (even that is not guaranteed these days of economic slowdown). I am a business student and have been one ever since I remember to observe and started to think about issues. Business in general has fascinated me and I seek to master the modern day technicalities to understand the nuances and challenges faced by businesses today. I find my understanding, my philosophy, my desires, my life; all hanging in the two parts of business scale i.e. assets and liabilities.
I just hope that the two years at IIFT will be fruitful enough and I would come out of it a whole lot more know ledged and wiser…..:)
Usual stuff
Kids across the country are though getting relief in turns as the election drama 2009 moves into the third phase and wherever it goes the schools in that region are put for 1 to 3 days of mandatory leaves.
News coming in of more job cuts across the corporate industry and specially IT industry by Sep-09 wasn’t really well received by people already scared to death over potential job losses.

Why L K Advani should be PM
Of all the parties that are in the foray , BJP could really boast of most capable ministrial candidates with the likes of Arun Shourie, arun jaitley, Murli Manohar joshi, Sushma Swaraj, Yashwant Sinha and of course the star performer for his state Mr. Narendra Modi. Congress doesn’t have such an army , its horses are all old and the party suffers from their baggage. Apart from Manmohan singh and P Chidambaram there is no publicly acceptable ministerial candidate with congress party, and it has been highly embarrassed by the likes of arjun singh and shivraj patil. And it is also widely and even internationally accepted that both Manmohan and Chidambaram had very average and even dismal performance report cards(read THE ECONOMIST for more elaborate results) .All the other small regional parties do more harm than good.
Accept this L K advani is any day a more strong and inspiring leader than Manmohan Singh. I mean a nation which has more than half young population roaring to go is represented by some person who has such feeble voice that it is difficult to hear him even if you are standing right beside him. Probably this suggests why Indian interests are really not given that much of importance in US and UN when discussing terrorism and Pakistan’s territory’s alleged use in it.
Although the so called black money issue raised by BJP seriously lacks in credibility, given that it too was in power and its own leaders like pramod mahajan and alike were notorious for under hand dealings, still , I believe the biggest agenda that the country faces in this election is that of Terrorism and at least for now BJP looks way more competent at handling it, given the disgusting performance and incapability of the congress government in handling the situation.
Congress seriously is a party of sycophants and old useless creatures ( a fact accepted even by Rahul Gandhi), and just showing some young paid faces in their ads wont wipe it off. It certainly doesn’t deserve to be voted in power again.
Rest is for Indian public to decide.
We are in midst of something
Pakistan on the verge of collapse, war still in Iraq and Afghanistan and subsequent doller bills, LTTE struggle in Sri Lanka, China and Tibet unrest, Internal struggle in Thailand, growing extremism in Bangladesh, Naxalites in Assam and Orissa and Bengal and Bihar virtually all the eastern and south eastern parts of our country and add to this the woes of terrorism which can virtually strike anywhere in the country at will.
Above is what I keep on hearing on TV, read in newspapers and talk about almost daily. All this is making me sick as I start wondering what is going to happen to us and our country as all the above is somehow related to us and our well being, and these thoughts are giving me nightmares at times.
If this is what is meant by making history and being part of history being made…..it obviously is not good.
